City Life
It is amazing how quickly one becomes accustomed to the city
life and the ease of having a market just up the road and a
car to get there. I guess the things we take for granted here
are those things you so dearly wish you had in the outback places
you travel to in order to be away from it all in the first place!
Nevertheless it is a always good to experience both sides of
the spectrum. We certainly had a great time whilst in the city.
Being that we were anchored out of Auckland city itself and
down in Gulf Harbour we were some ways distant from the real
action but technically were still in Auckland!
It was only a 30 minute drive into the heart of the city along
the State Highway number 1! We traveled this road frequently!
We drove up to Silverdale and left onto the no.1, passing the
airport, North Harbour Stadium, across the bridge and viola,
AUCKLAND. Look for the Sky tower. It is unmistakable!
Further to visiting the city in order to get a feel for the
layout and to collect much needed spares and cleaning products,
we also ventured in or through when journeying south or on the
return back to ‘home base’
We visited purposefully for One Day Cricket Internationals,
Chinese Lantern Festivals, Wiaheke Island Food and Wine Festival
and once to get our car out of the pound!
It was all a major attraction and with the concept of extreme
sports and adventures being available throughout New Zealand
the positioning of the highest bungee jump in NZ, from the Sky
Tower, was quite spectacular to see. Also the nightly lighting
of the Sky tower in varying colours was great to see.
The cricket games and wines festivals were great fun even though
South Africa lost both times!!! It was all well and good. The
atmosphere was brilliant and we really enjoyed the company of
the many great Kiwis we met or bumped into at the various events!
