Tihoti invited us over early in the morning to assist with the collection of the required items. We had a fine time in the collection of these items. Using the super sharp machete to down tall banana trees, as well as collect the hibiscus stalks, so as to harvest the strong rope like bark to package the meat cuts in. We all got to weave our own plates, which we used in the housing of the various cuts of meat within the oven. We also got a chance to open coconuts in the traditional manner and grate the coconut with a traditional grater, which is not easy let me tell you! But there is no better reward then to open fresh coconuts and drink the pure nectar known as coconut water! It is so refreshing and healthy too! Jim who was in Tahiti in 1961 seemed to have the knack of the procedure down pretty well. I would guess he did a bit of training during his last visit! Oihanu was always on hand to help his Dad out with the burlap sacks or the banana stalk. It was truly a great morning and we concluded the preparations with a walk to the beach and a dip in the crystal clear waters of the Huahine lagoon!
